My partner Andy and I struggled to fish big fish anywhere. At 1:00, and with only about 8 pounds in the livewell, we changed tactics abit. We started targeting small fish. In this tournament, there was a $250 prize for the smallest legal bag of smallies. We had nothing to lose, so we started culling our way DOWN! Mininum length at this time of year is 15 inches, which is roughly a 2 pounder. At 1:00, when we made this decision, we had just caught a chunky 15 1/5 incher, out went the 3 1/2 pounder. So we had a bigger one, and a smaller one, just in case we caught a pig at the end. We made a location change, to a small slag pile in 34 feet of water that Mike and I found last weekend, I knew there were smaller fish there!! Within minutes I caught a beautiful 15 incher, no more, no less. Perfect!!! Within minutes and packing up to get to the weigh-in I get one more that went 15 1/4 inches, and skinny to boot!! We officially weighed in at 4.18 pounds, who could "beat" that, right??? That held for most of the weigh-in until a team came in with a 4.04 bag. BUMMER!!! Oh well, made it interesting anyway.
